David Allman established the business in the early 1960s. Before that, he gained experience in a variety of roles with large UK companies, including the operation of draglines.
On his return to Ireland, this experience helped fill a position with the Board of Works, where he was responsible for two draglines; a 120t Marion and an 80t Lima. During this time David was responsible for the construction of Brick and Cashen Drainage project close to Ballybunion, which was one of the more notable projects of the era.
Despite the continuous nature of work in the public sector, running his own operation held strong appeal for David, which finally materialised with the purchase of a Deutz dozer. From these beginnings a variety of supplementary machines were added, which led to the ability to cater for a wide range of applications.
